- Popularly called as KJ.
- Finished his MBBS and MD at Stanley Medical College in 1958.
- Tutor in neurology at the MIN to begin with and became reader in neurology-1964.
- Professor of neurology in 1966 and retired in 1986.
ACHIEVEMENTS
- The youngest Assistant Professor at Government GH, Madras Medical College.
- Was selected as Colombo plan scholar and sent to United Kingdom for Neurology training at Queens Square, Maudsley Hospital, Stroke Mandevelle Hospital and Maida Vale hospital.
- Best citizen of India -1998 and has 150 papers to his credit.
- Post retirement he continued as Chief at Apollo Hospital, Chennai.
PROF.DR. C.U.VELMURUGENDRAN
HOD OF NEUROLOGY (01.1.1992 – 31.05.1996)

ABOUT
- Affectionately called as CUV, is the top Neurologist of the country
- Joined as faculty at MIN in 1975.
- Honorary Prof at Sri Venkateshwara Institute of medical sciences, Tirupati.
- Served at Sri Ramachandra medical college and Research institute,Chennai post retirement from, MIN.
ACHIEVEMENTS
- Worked at WHO from 1974 to 1975.
- Faculty of staff selection committee at Sri Chitra Tirunal for medical sciences and technology -1994.
AWARDS
- Honoured with “Padmasri”, the highest civilian award of the country, in 2008.
PROF.DR.K.CHELLAPAN
HOD OF NEUROLOGY (1.07.1998 – 13.02.2000 )

ABOUT
- Complted MD at Stanley Medical College and DM from Institute of Neurology at 1983
- Served as a Dean also at SRM – CHENNAI
- Post retirement, Sir is practising in Kodambakkam at his private clinic.
- Headache is his area of interest.
ACHIEVEMENTS
- Conducted golden jubilee celebrations at MIN -2000.
- Had been the Secretary and President of Tamilnadu Government Medical Officers Association.
- The only neurologist to become the Dean of Madras Medical College and Stanley Medical College
PROF.DR. KAMAKSHI SHANBOGUE
HOD OF NEUROLOGY (1.03.2005 – 31.08.2006)

ABOUT
- A down to earth personality and extremely kind hearted.
- Was very affectionate to all.
- Her interests were in Ataxia and memory.
- She was an excellent teacher and after retiring she continued her good work for the poor and needy.
- She passed away in 2019.

PROF. DR.A.V.SRINIVASAN

ABOUT
- Fondly called as AVS, completed his MBBS, MD, DM,and PhD all from the reputed Institute, Madras Medical college.
- Special interests include Movement Disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, Cognition and Epilepsy.
- Extra curricular activities include Cricket, Tennis and reading books.
ACHIEVEMENTS
- Was trained in Movement Disorders as a Commonwealth Medical Fellow under Professor CD Marsden in National Hospital, Neurology and Neuro Surgery, Queens Square, London (1993-1994).
- Was felicitated during the Summer School Teaching Program of Indian Academy of Neurology in 2019 – Commemorating his completion of 50 Years in Madras Medical College.
- The Tamil Nadu Doctor MGR Medical University conferred him, Honorary Doctor of Science in 2009.
- Corresponding Fellow of American Academy of Neurology, Fellow of Indian Academy of Neurology and Fellow of Royal college of Physicians, London.

- He served at MIN and retired as Head of the same Institute.
- Post retirement he continues as Professor and Head of Neurology at Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute.

- Common Wealth Medical Fellow-UK,1989-1990.
- 36 years experience in clinical neurology.
- Has numerous papers and publications to his credit and his special interests are in the field of headache, epilepsy and stroke.
